Flowering dogwood

DSC_4972

My flowering dogwoods (Cornus florida) are planted as an understory tree, as they grow in nature. This is not a tree that wants to be out on the lawn in full sun, as many people plant it. It is a tree that offers exquisite beauty over several weeks, as those large bracts slowly enlarge and turn white. And then in fall it will produce bright red berries for birds to devour. A great native tree.
